A Modern Crochet Skirt with Beautiful Texture
The standout feature of this crochet skirt is its gorgeous textured stitch pattern. The combination of single crochet and double crochet stitches creates a raised, detailed fabric that looks impressive while remaining comfortable to wear.
A ribbed crochet band adds structure around the waist and creates a lovely contrast with the texture of the skirt’s body. Once the skirt is assembled, the waistband can be adjusted using elastic thread or additional crochet rounds for a more secure and personalized fit.
The finished result is a versatile handmade skirt that works beautifully for holidays, summer outings, festivals, casual events or layered outfits during the cooler months.

Yarn and Materials
The prototype was made using Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, a worsted weight cotton yarn that provides excellent stitch definition and structure. However, you can use any worsted weight yarn in your preferred fibre and colour.
Cotton yarn is a wonderful option for creating a breathable skirt with clearly defined stitches. A cotton blend can provide a little more softness and movement, while acrylic yarn can be a practical and affordable alternative.
You will need approximately 600 to 1,000 yards of worsted weight yarn, depending on your chosen size and finished skirt length.

The project also requires:
- A 4 mm crochet hook for the waistband
- A 5 mm crochet hook for the body
- A yarn needle for sewing and weaving in ends
- Elastic thread, if you choose to use it when adjusting the waist
Size Inclusive Crochet Skirt Pattern
The Textured Mini Skirt Crochet Pattern includes instructions for sizes XS to 5XL and is designed for hip measurements from 32 to 64 inches.
Choose your size using your hip measurement rather than your waist measurement. The skirt is designed to fit loosely around the hips before the waistband is adjusted to fit your waist.
The modelled skirt is shown in size Medium with approximately one inch of positive ease. If you prefer a looser fit, you may wish to choose a size with slightly more positive ease.
The included hip measurements are:
XS: 32 inches
S: 36 inches
M: 40 inches
L: 44 inches
XL: 48 inches
2XL: 52 inches
3XL: 56 inches
4XL: 60 inches
5XL: 64 inches
The skirt length is customizable, allowing you to make a mini, knee length or longer version.

How the Textured Mini Skirt Is Constructed
The skirt is worked in two separate panels, making the construction easy to understand and allowing you to check the fit as you crochet.
Each panel begins with a ribbed waistband made using single crochet stitches worked through the back loops. The ribbing creates a flexible and structured band that sits comfortably around the waist.
Stitches are then worked along the long edge of the band before changing to the larger crochet hook. The body of the skirt is crocheted in rows using the textured stitch pattern.
Once the first panel reaches your preferred length, an edging is worked around it. A second matching panel is then made, and the two panels are sewn together along the side seams.
After joining the panels, you can adjust the waistband using either elastic thread or the same yarn used for the skirt.
Two Ways to Adjust the Waist
Because the skirt size is selected using the hip measurement, the waistband is adjusted after the panels have been joined.
The pattern includes two waistband finishing options.
The first option uses elastic thread. Single crochet rounds are worked around the inside of the waistband using firm tension. This gently gathers the band and helps it fit securely around the waist.
The second option uses the main yarn. Decrease stitches are worked around the waistband until the desired fit is achieved. An optional slip stitch round can then be added, although this may create a firmer and tighter fit.
Try the skirt on while adjusting the waistband so you can achieve a comfortable finish that is easy to pull over your hips.

Customizing Your Crochet Skirt
One of the best things about making your own clothing is being able to personalize every detail.
You can easily adjust the skirt length by adding or removing repeats of the textured body row. Remember that a longer skirt will require additional yarn.
You could create the skirt in a single neutral shade for a versatile wardrobe staple or combine several colours to make a bold striped version. Earthy browns, cream, olive green and warm terracotta would create a beautiful natural look, while brighter colours would make a fun statement piece.
The skirt can also be styled in many different ways. Pair it with a simple vest and sandals for a relaxed summer outfit, wear it over swimwear as a handmade beach cover up or combine it with tights, boots and a lightweight sweater during the cooler seasons.

Skill Level
This crochet skirt pattern is rated Intermediate.
You should be comfortable working in rows and rounds, crocheting into the back loop only, working basic increases and decreases, adding stitches along the edge of a crochet piece and sewing finished panels together.
The textured body uses a repeating combination of single crochet and double crochet stitches. Once the stitch placement becomes familiar, the body develops into a relaxing and enjoyable repeat.
The pattern is written using US crochet terminology.
Checking Your Gauge
A gauge swatch is important when making a fitted crochet garment. It helps ensure that your skirt will match the intended measurements and prevents the finished garment from being unexpectedly too small or too large.
To prepare the gauge swatch, chain 19 and follow the skirt’s body stitch pattern for 12 rows using the 5 mm crochet hook. Measure the swatch before blocking and adjust your hook size if necessary.
You may also find it helpful to measure your panel regularly as you work, especially if you are changing the yarn or customizing the skirt length.
Blocking and Finishing
After completing the side seams and adjusting the waistband, weave in all remaining ends and block the skirt to the required measurements.
Blocking helps relax the stitches, improve the drape and reveal the full beauty of the textured pattern. Always use a blocking method that is suitable for the fibre content of your chosen yarn.
Allow the skirt to dry completely before wearing it.
