How to make the Crossed half double crochet stitch tutorial

The crossed half double crochet cross stitch is such an easy stitch to master with a unique and beautiful texture created with no stress.

This stitch is also known as the criss cross half double crochet stitch, Half double crochet cross stitch.

Because of my love for the half double crochet stitch teture, I have designed numberous projects with the sttich. These projects ranges from accesories to garments.

The crossed double crochet stitch is very simialr to this crochet pattern.

Materials for the stitch tutorial

Best yarn for the crossed half double crochet stitch

You can use any weight of yarn for this stitch tutorial. When making aproject that requires this stitch, you can also use any yarn weights.

Estimated Yardage = 20 yards

Crochet Hook = 5 mm – Make sure to use a correspondign hook size for the yarn you intend on usign.

Gauge – Not crucial to this project.

Chain/chains – ch/chs

Single Croceht – sc

Half double crochet – hdc

How to make the Crossed half double crochet stitch

Crossed half double crochet stitch in rows

Step 1: Make an even number of chains

Step 2: Hdc in 3rd chain from the hook and in each chain across, turn

Step 3: Ch 2 (this does not count as a stitch here and through tout the pattern), skip next stitch, hdc in next stitch.

Step 4: Crocheting in front of the hdc just made, work hdc into the skipped stitch

First crossed half double crochet made.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until your desired size.

Now, let’s try a written pattern for a small square using crossed half double crochet.

Notes

  1. When making the crossed half double crochet stitch in rows, you turn after each row.
  2. You can adjust the number of chains in a multiple of 2. This means you need an even number of chains and will have an even number of stitches after each row!

Chain 22

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch and each ch across, turn. 20 hdc

Rows 2 – 9: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc across until last st,  hdc in last st, turn. 2 hdc, 8 xhdc

Continue repeating row 2 until you have the desired height.

Edging

Crocheting around the whole piece

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, (sc, ch 1, sc) at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.
