Supplies needed for this Beginners Crochet Bookmark Free Pattern

Yarn—You can make this simple crochet bookmark with any yarn weight! However, I prefer the thinnest yarn, as it makes the project less bulky.

I have used size 10 thread to avoid leaving marks on my books. I love it when my Bookmarks are as thin as possible.

For this project, I have used a Size 10 Thread, #1 (100% Cotton, 40 yards per 40g Ball)

Crochet Hook size = 2 mm

Guage = is not crucial for this project.

Estimated Yardage per yarn weight: 40 Yards when you include fringes and use size 10 thread. You would require less if you use thicker yarn weight and skip the fringes.

Adding Fringes

Supplies needed for the fringe

  • Yarn in the color of your choice
  • Scissors
  • Solid material – Can be a book
  • Tape measure

Finished measurement – 2”

Note that the length of the solid material you intend to use will determine the length of your yarn.

Step 1: Wrap yarn around the solid material (book) multiple times.

Step 2: Cut an opening into the bunch of yarn.

To attach the fringes to the bookmark.

Use any stitches from the bookmark’s short edge, your hook, and 3 – 4 strands of yarn. Using a slip stitch, secure the fringe firmly to the bed runner.

  • Count 2 sts away from the previous fringe and secure another fringe.
  • Repeat until you have attached your fringes across the last row of your bookmark.
  • Repeat on the other short end of the bookmark.
  • Trim off excess yarn on the fringe to have loops of equal length.
