Size Range and Fit

Crochet Moss Mittens Free Pattern
Section 1 – Mitts
For all sizes
Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 1, 8 sc, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 8 sc
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 16 sc
For the Toddler size, skip to next section
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 sc, sc in next st, rep from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 24 sc
For the Child, skip to next section
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, rep from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 32 sc
For the Adult/Teen size, skip to next section
Adult large alone =. Round 5: Ch 1, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 40 sc
Section 2 – Fingers cover
For all sizes
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first st and ch 1), *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * around, sl st to the first ch.
- Place a stitch marker in ch sp and continue to move it after each round; there is no need to make the beginning chain 2 or join after every round from now on.
Rounds 2 – 17 (19, 21, 23): *Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next ch sp, rep from * around. 16 (24, 32, 40) sc
You should have a length close to the base of your fingers.
Increase round:
Round 18 (20, 22, 24): Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * twice, (sc, ch 1 sc) in next st**, rep from * to ** until the end of the round.
Rounds 19 (21, 23, 25) – 24 (26, 30, 32): Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * around.
Check for fit – The mitts should be at the base of your thumb.
If not, add a few more rounds.
If too long, frog back until you get to the base of your thumb.
Section 3 – Split for Thumb opening
Split for the thumb
Round 12 (16, 18, 33): Ch 4 (4, 6, 6) skip next 2 ch 1 sps, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * around.
Try your mitts on to check if the space left for the thumb opening is a good fit.
If too tight, increase the chains and the skipped sts.
Round 13 (17, 19, 34): Ch 1, (sc in first ch, ch 1, skip next ch), rep ( ) until the end of ch sps, Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * around.
Rounds 14 (18, 20, 35) – 21 (23, 23, 38): Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 1, rep from * around.
Try the mitt on again. Delete rounds if it’s too long; add rounds if it’s too short.
Section 4 – Cuff
Row 1: Chain 14, sc in 2nd ch from hook and sc in each chain across, skip corresponding st on the mitten body, sl st into the next 2 sts on the body of the mitten, turn. 13 sc
Row 2: Skip the first 2 sl sts, sc BLO in each st across, turn. 13 sc
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in BLO of the remaining sts, skip corresponding st on the glove, sl st into the next 2 sts on the glove, turn. 13 sc
Repeat rows 2 – 3 until you have crocheted all around the mitt
Turn to the wrong side, sew the last and the first row’s sides together.
Fasten off.
Section 5 – Thumb
Join yarn with a sl st to any of the skipped stitches.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 1 *skip next st, sc in next ch sp, ch 1, rep from * around.
Rounds 2 – 5 (7, 9, 11): Ch 1, *skip next st, sc in next ch, ch 1, rep from * around.
Try the mitt on again. If the thumb is too long, delete some rounds; if it’s too short, add some rounds.
Turn to the wrong side.
With both sts, sl st to close.
Fasten off. Weave in all loose ends.
