Ugly christmas sweater crochet free pattern
Adding to my collection of Christmas ornament has been one of the best projects I have ever embarked on. These mini ugly sweater crochet ornaments are so fun to make and also a perfect last-minute crochet decoration idea.
How to use the ugly crochet Christmas sweater pattern
- The mini sweater can be used as ornaments on your Christmas tree.
- You can use these as a garland.
- You can decorate your present packaging with these mini sweaters.
- Use as an applique!
This project allows you to use any color of your choice, making it a good choice for a scrap yarn project.

Crochet ugly Christmas sweater pattern details
Materials
Lion brand Coboo – DK, #3 lightweight (51% Cotton, 49% Rayon from Bamboo, 232 yards/212m per 3.5 oz/100g skein)
Estimated Yardage
Color A = 15 yards
Color B = 5 yards
Hook and other Materials
4 mm Crochet Hook
Gauge – 14 sts over 8 rows = 10 cm/4” square made in dc

Stitches Abbreviations
Chain/chains – ch/chs
Single Crochet – sc
Half double crochet – hdc
Slip stitch – sl st
Crossed half double crochet – xhdc
Back loop oBLO

Special Stitch
Crossed half double crochet – *skip next st, hdc in next st, crocheting over the hdc just made, work hdc into the skipped st, rep from * to the end.
Finished Measurement
Body Lenght – 3”
Sleeves – Across both – 4”

How to make an ugly Christmas sweater crochet pattern
Section 1: Body
Front Panel
With A, Chain 10
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 8 sts
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc across until the last st, hdc in last st, turn. 2 hdc, 4xhdc
Rows 3 – 5: Repeat Row 2
Neckline
Row 6: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc over next 2 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts, xhdc across next 2 sts, hdc in last st, turn. 2 hdc, 2xhdc
Back Panel
Row 7: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc across until the last st, hdc in last st, turn. 2 hdc, 3xhdc
Rows 8 – 9: Rep Row 7
Row 10: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. 8 hdc.
Edging
Crocheting around the whole piece
Aim for (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) at each of the 4 corners.
Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in each st around.
Fasten off Color A, join color B to the last st.
Crocheting across the short edge;
Sweater Brim
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. 10 sc.
Rows 2 – 4: Rep Row 1.
Fasten off.
Join Color B with a sl st to the lower edge on the other edge.
Repeat as with the sweater brim.

Section 2: Sleeves
- Fold The front panel over the back panel.
- Count 5 sts down from the shoulder tip.
- Place a stitch marker on this stitch on either side of the front and back panel.
- Adjust the placement of the stitch markers if necessary.
- Join A with a sl st to either of the stitches with the stitch marker.
Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc across until the last st, hdc in last st, turn. 2 hdc, 4xhdc
Row 2: Rep Row 1
Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn. 10 hdc.
Fasten off Coloe A
Sleeve Cuffs
Join color B
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. 10 sc.
Rows 5 – 6: Rep Row 4
Repeat the second sleeve on the other side.
Fasten off Color A
Joining
- Fold the sweater lengthwise.
- Sew the sides together, starting from the sleeve towards the body of the sweater and the brim.
- Repeat on the other side.
Fasten off.
Fasten off and sew in all ends
Turn to the right side
Section 4: Neckline
Join B with a sl st to any st on the neckline
Round 1 : Ch 1, sc in each st around, join.
Round 2: Rep Row 1
Optional
Chain 10, sl st to the first chain.
Adjust the number of chains if needed.
This will be used to hanging.
Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
