Crochet Flower Bookmark Pattern

Materials
Yarn – Any yarn weight in the colors of your choice.
A prototype was made using size 10 thread and three colors.
Size 10 Thread, #1 (100% Cotton, 40 yards per 40g Ball)
Estimated Total Yardage
Main Color (MC) White = 30 Yards
Second color (CC) Pink = 30 yards
Third color (CC) Purple = 30 yards
Hook – 2.5 mm Crochet Hook
Gauge – Not crucial for this project. Make sure to use a similar weight of yarn for this project.

How to crochet a flower bookmark
Make 5 squares
Round 1: With CC, make a Magic ring, ch 3 (counts as the first dc, here and throughout), dc, *ch 1, 2 dc, rep from * 6 more times, ch 1, join with a sl st to the beginning ch. 16 dc, 8 ch sps
Close the ring tightly.
Fasten off CC, join MC in any ch sp
Round 2: With MC, ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc in ch 1 sp,*(2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each ch 1 sp around, join. 32 dc, 8 ch sps
Fasten off MC, join CC to any of the ch sps.
Round 3: Ch 3, 5 dc in ch 1 sp, *6 dc each ch 1 sp, join. 48 dc
Fasten off CC, join MC to any of the 3rd dc in the group of 6 dc from the round below.
Round 4: Ch 7 (counts as the first tr + ch 3), tr, in same st, *dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, (tr, ch 3, tr) in next st, rep from * 2 more times, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next st, dc in last 2 sts, join with a sl st to the 3rd.
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around, aim for 3 sc in each ch 3 sp, join.
Weave in all ends
Fasten off.
Joining the squares together
- Lay the squares in a single row.
- Secure the corners with stitch markers.
- Crocheting across the adjacent sides of two squares.
- Use a crochet hook and a single crochet to connect the sides of the squares.
- Repeat until you have joined the 5 squares together.
Finishing
Using any of the colors
Edging
Round 1: Join yarn to any of the sts, crocheting around the joined bookmark, sc in each st around, join with a sl st .
Adding Fringes
Supplies needed for the fringe
- Yarn in the color of your choice
- Scissors
- Solid material – Can be a book
- Tape measure
Finished measurement – 2”
Note that the length of the solid material you intend to use will determine the length of your yarn.
Step 1: Wrap yarn around the solid material (book) multiple times.
Step 2: Cut an opening into the bunch of yarn.
To attach the fringes to the bookmark.
Use any stitches from the bookmark’s short edge, your hook, and 1 – 2 strand(s) of yarn. Using a slip stitch, secure the fringe firmly to the lower end of the last square.
- Using the next st, pick the next strand of yarn and secure another fringe.
- Repeat until you have attached your fringes across the last row of your bookmark.
- Repeat on the other short end of the bookmark.
- Trim off excess yarn on the fringe to have loops of equal length.
Block to measurement.
