Crochet Pot Holder An Easy Pattern for Beginners

The pot holder pattern is ideal for beginner crochet as it uses basic crochet stitches!

If you can make half-double crochet stitches, then this potholder would be a walk in the park for you.

How to Crochet a Potholder

With this easy-to-follow pattern, you would learn how to crochet a potholder by creating two separate pieces of potholders. After which the two pieces are then joined together for a thick, supportive, and useful crochet potholder.

  1. Start by making a magic circle (or ch 4, slip stitch to the 4th ch) and continue crocheting in rounds.
  2. Make two separate pieces. The first was made in all half double crochet while the second was made in the 3rd loop of half double crochet.
  3. The two pieces are then made into equal sizes and joined together for a pretty thick potholder!

The best yarn for a crochet potholder

The best yarn for a crochet potholder is one that is made of 100% cotton. This is because the cotton yarn is durable, heat-resistant, and easy to care for.

When choosing cotton yarn for your crochet potholders, look for a worsted weight yarn that is labeled as “dishcloth” or “pot holder” yarn, as these are specifically designed for kitchen use.

Some popular brands of cotton yarn for potholders include Lily Sugar ‘n Cream, Peaches & Creme, and Bernat Handicrafter. It is important to avoid using acrylic or synthetic yarns as they may melt or release harmful chemicals when exposed to high temperatures.

How to use pot holders

Crochet pot holders are kitchen essentials that can be used to protect your hands from heat while handling hot pots, pans, and dishes.

To use this crochet pot holder, simply fold it into two, with your hand covered with the pot holder, making sure that your fingers are spread out evenly. Then, grasp the hot object using the potholder, ensuring that the heat-resistant layer is between your hand and the hot surface.

Use the potholder to securely grip and move the hot object as needed. Always make sure that the potholder is clean and dry before use to avoid any potential hazards.

And remember, never use a crochet potholder that is frayed or damaged as it may not provide adequate protection from heat.

I can’t wait to see your beautiful makes! Come share your projects with me and the crochet community on Facebook and on Instagram.
