Crochet turban headband pattern free

My crochet turban headband pattern was first published a few years – about 6 years ago in a crochet magazine and I finally get to publish it here on my blog.

This headband is a perfect project if you are looking for texture! Plus, it comes in multiple sizes.

Crochet Turban Headband Pattern Details

Yarn: You can use any worsted weight yarn of your choice.
Caron cake, medium worsted weight #4 yarn, (80% acrylic, 20g cake)
1 cake Rainbow Sprinkles

Hook: 5 MM, H/8
Gauge: 18 DC and 9 rows = 4”/10 cm
Terms – US TERMINOLOGY

Abbreviations
Chains (CH)
Single Crochet (SC)
Treble – (TR)
Double Crochet (DC)

Puff stitch – (Puff) – yo, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up loop, [yo, insert hook in same, yo, pull up loop] 2 times (7 loops on hook), yo, pull through all loops on hook

Crochet Turban Headband Sizes/Finished Measurements

Knot – adult 4 x 3”, Child 4 x 2.5”

Headband Width – 4” for all sizes

Headband length – as desired

Pattern notes:

  1. Similar-weight yarns may be substituted; please check the gauge.
  2. Beginning ch 3 does not count as a stitch unless noted.
  3. For the wider band, increase starting chains in multiples of 4 plus 1.

Crochet Turban Headband Pattern

Row 1: Chain 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st across (12 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3, turn *skip first 3 sts, tr in next, working behind tr just made, dc in each skipped sts. repeat from * across (3 tr, 9 dc)

Row 3: Ch 3, turn *skip first 3 sts, tr in next st, working in front tr just made, dc in first missed st, dc in each skipped st, repeat from * two more times (3 tr, 9 dc)
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (12 sc)
Row 5: Repeat row 4

Row 2 to Row 5 form the basic pattern; repeat till you have a length long enough to wrap
around your head, ending with Row 4.

Edges
Row 1: Ch 1 turn, working down long side, sc evenly down side, rotate work, sc across short
side, rotate work working down second long side, sc evenly down side.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, repeat row 1
Fasten off with a long tail yarn for sewing, sew short sides together, and wrap yarn around the seam to give a cinched look.

Knot
Row 1: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each across (4 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), turn, skip first, (puff, ch 1, puff) in next, skip 1, dc in last (1 puff set, 2 dc)
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, (puff, ch 1, puff) in ch 1 sp, dc in last (1 puff set, 2 dc)
Row 4 – 22: Repeat Row 3
*Length of this should be double headband length)
Fasten off with a long tail for sewing

Turban
Fold in half, securing both ends with both hands, twist both ends in opposite direction, once desired knot is formed, sew to secure knot.
Use the remaining tail to sew a knot to the headband.
Weave in all ends.
