Supplies For the Halloween Coaster Pattern Details

Yarn—For this crochet Halloween coaster pattern, you can use any worsted-weight yarn in colors to match your space.

Yardage for 1 Coaster

20 yards in color A

20 yards in color B

Hook and other materials

5 mm crochet hook

Stitch marker – 1 pcs

Darning Needle

Gauge

16  sts over 10  Rows = 4” across, made using hdc, before blocking.

  2. Any #4 weight yarn can be substituted

Construction notes

  1. This project is done in 3 sections.
  2. Section 1: The coaster base is in a continuous round (spiral). The joining is skipped to give a smooth spiral. 
  3. Section 3: The spider web lace is also in rounds. Make sure the base and the lace are the same height.
  4. Both panels are then joined together to secure them.
  5. Section 3: The spider legs are made in a single round!

Crochet Halloween Coaster Pattern Finished Measurements

Use worsted-weight yarn for this Halloween coaster; each of the prototypes measures 5” in diameter, excluding the legs.

How to make the crochet Halloween coaster

Section 1: Coaster base

With Color A

Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 2, (does not count as a stitch), 8 hdc in magic ring.  8 hdc

  • No need to join after each round; place a stitch marker.
  • Move the marker after each round. 

Round 2: 2 hdc in each around. 16 hdc

Round 3: *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat from * around. 24 hdc

Round 4: *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next, repeat from * around. 32 hdc

Round 5: *hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in the next, and repeat from * around. 40 hdc

Round 6: *hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in

next st, repeat from * around. 48 hdc

Round 7: *hdc in the next 5 sts, 2 hdc in the next, and repeat from * around. 56 hdc

Sl st in next st to close the height difference. 

Set aside.

Section 2 – Spiderweb

With Color B 

Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 1 (counts as first st), 4 sc and join with sl st to ch sp. 5 sc

Round 2: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc + ch 2 sp), dc in same st as the ch sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2) in each st around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 5. 10 dc, 10 ch sps

Round 3: Ch 7 (counts as dc + ch 4), *skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 4, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps

Round 4: Ch 9 (counts as dc + ch 6), *skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 6, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps.

Joining

  • Place the web lace on the coaster base.
  • Continue with color B.
  • The next round is aimed at joining the sts in both sections together.
  • Crochet around the 10 chain spaces and the sts in section 2.
  • Evenly space the sts around the web lace and the sts left from round 7.

Round 1: Ch 1, 5 sc over both panels, *6 sc over next ch 6 sp and the corresponding 6 sts on the base, rep from * until last ch 6 sp, 5 sc over the last Ch sp, join with a sl st to the beginning ch sp. 72 sc.

Fasten off if skipping the spider legs.

Section 3: Spider Legs

Round 2: 

Back legs

First and Second legs: Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 6 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc in last 4 chs, skip next st on the coaster, sc in next 3 sts on the coaster.

Front legs

Third and Fourth legs: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 chs, sc3tog, sc in last 4 chs, skip next st on the coaster, sc in next 10 sts on the coaster.

Fifth and sixth legs

Ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 6 chs, 3 sc in next ch, sc in last 4 chs, skip next st on the coaster, sc in next 3 sts on the coaster.

Seventh and Eight legs: Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 4 chs, sc3tog, sc in last 4 chs, skip next st on the coaster, sc in next 3 sts on the coaster.

Continue with sc in each of the remaining sts around. 

Fasten off

Weave in all ends.
