How To Crochet Christmas Star Free Pattern

Section 1: Star

  • For the prototype, I have 8 stars.
  • You can customize your version by increasing or reducing the number of stars and the length in yours.

Round 1: In a magic chain, ch 3 (counts as the first dc), 8 dc in the magic ring, sl st to the top of the ch 3, and close the magic ring tightly. 9 dc

Round 2: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), *sc in next st, (2 dc, tr, ch 3, sl st to the 3rd ch, tr, 2 dc) in next st, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning chain. 

10 tr, 20 dc, 5 sc, 5 corners 

Optional

Adding ropes for hanging

First and Second stars – Chain 20 and then fasten off.

Third and Fourth stars – Chain 30 and then fasten off.

Fifth and sixth stars – Chain 40 and then fasten off.

Seventh and eighth stars – Chain 50 and then fasten off.

Block the stars.

  • For the 1st and 2nd stars: Chain 20, then fasten off.
  • For the 3rd and 4th stars: Chain 30, then fasten off.
  • For the 5th and 6th stars: Chain 40, then fasten off.
  • For the 7th and 8th stars: Chain 50, then fasten off.

Block all the stars before joining.

Joining the Stars

  1. Chain 15, then slip stitch into the end of the rope from the 8th star (the longest chain).
  1. Chain 10, slip stitch into the end of the rope from the next longest star.
  2. Repeat Step 2, working your way up until you reach the shortest ropes (the 1st and 2nd stars).
  3. Continue chaining and slip stitching until all stars are joined in order.
  4. Chain 15, sl st through the last chain from 8th star (longest chain) 

Fasten off.
