The pattern combines a soft DK weight yarn with a strand of sequin yarn held together throughout the project. This creates a beautiful shimmering fabric without making the dress feel overly heavy or difficult to wear.
The Aurelia Dress is suitable for adventurous beginners and is available in nine inclusive sizes, from XS to 5XL. You can make a knee length dress, a longer ankle length version or adjust the length to suit your personal style.

About the Aurelia Crochet Dress
The Aurelia Dress is worked from the top down, beginning with the shoulder straps. The upper sections are made separately before being joined together. Once the front and back sections are connected, the remainder of the dress is worked seamlessly in rounds.
This construction method allows you to try the dress on as you work and adjust the length where necessary. The design requires very little finishing and does not involve sewing long garment pieces together.

A smaller crochet hook is used around the waist to create gentle shaping. You will then return to the larger hook for the hip and lower section of the dress. Optional elastic thread may also be added to improve the fit and provide additional support.
Why You Will Love the Aurelia Dress
The Aurelia Dress combines a simple construction with a glamorous finish. Although it looks sophisticated, the main body is created using beginner friendly crochet stitches.
The pattern includes:
Inclusive sizing from XS to 5XL
A seamless top down construction
A flattering V neckline
Gentle waist shaping
Customizable dress length
Optional elastic thread for additional support
Clear stitch counts for every size
Color coded stitch counts at important shaping points
Instructions written in US crochet terminology
The finished dress can be worn with heels and statement jewelry for a formal occasion or styled with sandals and a light jacket for a more relaxed look.

Choosing Yarn for the Aurelia Dress
You will need two different yarns for this project. One strand of DK weight yarn and one strand of sequin yarn are held together throughout.
The sample was made using Hobbii Kind Feather as the main yarn.
Hobbii Kind Feather is a DK weight acrylic yarn with approximately 400 metres or 437 yards in each 100 gram ball.
You may substitute the suggested yarn with another DK weight yarn that produces the correct gauge. Choose a yarn that feels comfortable against the skin and has enough drape for a fitted garment.
For the second strand, choose a lightweight sequin yarn that can be comfortably held together with DK weight yarn. Sequin yarns with a fine thread base work especially well because they add shine without creating too much bulk.
The two yarns may be closely matched in colour for a subtle finish, or you can combine contrasting shades for a more noticeable effect.

Optional Elastic Thread
Approximately 70 (80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150) inches of elastic thread may be required for sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL).
Elastic thread is optional but may help the waist or upper section sit more securely against the body. It can be worked alongside the yarn or added discreetly after the crochet section has been completed.
Avoid pulling the elastic too tightly. The dress should remain comfortable and flexible enough for movement.
Gauge
15 stitches over 13 rows measure 4 inches.
The gauge swatch is made using half double crochet and a 5 mm crochet hook before blocking.
Because the Aurelia Dress is a fitted garment, checking your gauge is important. A different gauge can affect the final bust, waist, hip and length measurements, as well as the amount of yarn required.
Make your swatch using both the DK weight yarn and sequin yarn held together, as you will throughout the pattern. Measure the swatch without stretching it.
Finished Measurements
The pattern is available in sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL).
Bust Measurement
30 (34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54, 58, 62) inches

Dress Length
40 (42, 44, 44, 46, 46, 48, 48, 50) inches
The model is wearing a size Medium with approximately 1 inch of positive ease.

Choosing Your Size
Choose your size according to the finished bust and hip measurements rather than relying only on your usual clothing size.
The sample is shown with approximately 1 inch of positive ease. This means the finished garment is around 1 inch larger than the wearer’s body measurement.
For a closer fit, choose a size that is similar to your actual bust and hip measurements. For a more relaxed fit, choose a finished measurement that is slightly larger.
Because the dress is worked from the top down, you can try it on during construction and make small adjustments to the waist, hip or length where necessary.
Estimated Yardage
The following estimates apply to each yarn type. You will need approximately the same yardage of DK weight yarn and sequin yarn because the two strands are held together throughout.
Knee Length Dress:
800 (900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600) Yards of regular DK weight yarn and another in same yardage of Sequin threaded yarn
Ankle length Dress:
1000 (1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800) Yards of regular DK weight yarn and another in same yardage of Sequin threaded yarn
These estimates are listed for sizes XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL).
Your final yarn usage may vary depending on your gauge, chosen length, yarn substitution and any personal adjustments.
Pattern note: The knee length and ankle length yardage figures supplied are currently identical. This section should be checked before publication, as the ankle length version would normally require more yarn than the knee length version.
Construction of the Aurelia Dress
The dress begins at the shoulders.
The shoulder straps and upper sections are worked first. Two separate sections are made and then joined to create the upper body of the dress.
After the sections have been joined, the remainder of the project is worked in continuous or joined rounds, according to the pattern instructions. This eliminates the need to sew together long side seams.
A 5 mm crochet hook is used for the beginning of the dress. The pattern then changes to a 4 mm crochet hook around the waist to create a more fitted shape.
After completing the waist, the 5 mm crochet hook is used again for the hip and lower portion. You can continue crocheting until the dress reaches your preferred length.
Adjusting the Dress Length
One of the advantages of the top down construction is that the length can be customized.
For a shorter dress, stop working the body once it reaches your preferred knee or midi length. Remember to allow enough yarn for any final edging or finishing rounds.
For an ankle length version, continue repeating the established body rounds until the dress reaches the desired measurement.
Try the dress on occasionally or measure it against a well fitting garment. The weight of the yarn and sequins may cause the finished dress to lengthen slightly during wear.

Working With Sequin Yarn
Sequin yarn may look intimidating, but it becomes much easier to use once you settle into a comfortable rhythm.
Keep the tension relaxed and allow the sequin strand to feed naturally alongside the main yarn. Avoid pulling the strands too tightly, as this may make the fabric stiff.
If a sequin becomes trapped inside a stitch, gently move it to the front or back of the fabric before completing the next stitch. There is no need for every sequin to face the same direction. The varied placement creates a natural sparkling effect.
Work in good lighting so that you can see both strands clearly. Taking regular breaks may also help prevent hand fatigue, particularly when working on the longer body section.
Pattern Notes
Please read through the complete pattern before beginning.
The stitch count is written at the end of each row or round. The smallest size, XS, is written first, followed by the remaining sizes inside parentheses.
The sizes are written as:
XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)
Stitch counts written in black apply to all sizes. At certain points, the stitch counts are color coded to make the instructions easier to follow.
Check your stitch count regularly, especially during the upper body and waist shaping sections. Correct stitch counts will help the front, back and side sections align properly.

Styling the Aurelia Sequin Dress
The Aurelia Dress can be styled in several ways depending on the occasion.
For an evening event, pair it with heels, a small clutch bag and simple jewelry. Since the sequins already add detail, delicate accessories will complement the dress without overwhelming it.
For a wedding or celebration, add a lightweight wrap or fitted blazer. A neutral pair of shoes will allow the crochet texture and sparkle to remain the focus.
For a more relaxed outfit, make the knee length version and wear it with flat sandals or ankle boots. You can also layer a fitted camisole or slip beneath the dress for additional coverage.

How to Care for the Finished Dress
Always follow the care instructions provided for both yarns.
Hand washing is generally the safest option for handmade garments containing sequins. Use cool water and a mild detergent, and avoid rubbing or twisting the fabric.
Gently press out excess water with a towel. Lay the dress flat to dry and reshape it to the correct measurements.
Avoid hanging the dress while it is wet, as the weight of the yarn may stretch the shoulders and length.
Store the finished dress folded rather than on a hanger. This helps protect the shoulder straps and prevents the garment from gradually stretching.
Make the Aurelia Dress Your Own
The Aurelia Dress can be personalized through colour, length and fit.
Use gold, champagne, silver or black for a classic evening look. Brighter colours can create a bold party dress, while soft neutrals offer a more understated finish.
You can make the dress knee length, midi length or ankle length. You can also adjust the amount of positive ease depending on whether you prefer a fitted or slightly relaxed silhouette.
Whatever combination you choose, the Aurelia Sequin Crochet Dress is designed to become a memorable handmade piece that you can wear and enjoy for many occasions.
