Over the past few weeks, I have been having fun designing spiderweb projects. Today’s pattern incorporates the techniques used to make the lace. Meet the spiderweb round crochet trivet, a fun, free pattern.
This trivet protects your table from hot dishes while adding a touch of handmade charm to your kitchen. It’s an ideal project for beginners, using simple stitches to create a thick, durable trivet that’s great for everyday use.

Materials for the round crochet trivet
Yarn: For this pot holder, you can use any Worsted-weight yarn in two colors.
Stylecraft Special Aran (#4, 100% Acrylic, 196 m per 3.5 oz/100g Ball)
Estimated yardage
Color A – Black – 20 yards
Color B – Pumpkin – 30 yards
Hook and other materials
- 4 mm Crochet Hook needed for section 1
- 5 mm Crochet Hook – required for sections 2 and 3
- Yarn needle
Gauge
With 5 mm 16 sts over 10 rows = 4 x 4” made in dc, before blocking.
Adjust hook size if necessary, to obtain gauge.

- Any # 4 weight yarn can be substituted.
- The project is made of three separate parts: spiderweb lace, base, and handle.

How to make a Round crochet trivet free pattern
Section 1: Spider web
With 4 mm crochet hook
Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 1 (counts as first st), 4 sc and join with sl st to ch sp. 5 sc
Round 2: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc + ch 2 sp), dc in same st as the ch sp, ch 2, (dc, ch 2, dc, ch 2) in each st around, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 5. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 3: Ch 7 (counts as dc + ch 4), *skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 4, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 4: Ch 9 (counts as dc + ch 6), *skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 6, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 5: Ch 11 (counts as dc + ch 8), *skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 8, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 6: Ch 13 (counts as dc + ch 10), * skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 10, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 7: Ch 15 (counts as dc + ch 12), * skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 12, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Round 8: Ch 17 (counts as dc + ch 14), * skip ch sp, dc in next st, ch 14, rep from * to end round, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch sp. 10 dc, 10 ch sps
Section 2: Pot holder base
5 mm crochet hook and worsted weight
With color B
Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), 12 dc in magic ring. 12 dc.
Skip the beginning chains, and do not join.
Place a stitch marker at the end of the round and move it after every round.
Round 2: 2 dc in each st around. 24 dc
Round 3: *dc in next, 2 dc in next, repeat from * around. 36 dc
Round 4: *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next, repeat from * around. 48 dc
Round 5: *dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next, and repeat from * around. 60 dc
Round 6: *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next, repeat from * around. 72 dc
Round 9: *dc in the next 5 sts, 2 dc in the next, and repeat from * around. 84 dc
Round 10: *dc in the next 6 sts, 2 dc in the next, and repeat from * around. 96 dc
Round 11: *dc in the next 7 sts, 2 dc in the next, and repeat from * around. 108 dc
Round 12: *dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc in the next, and repeat from * around. 120 dc
sl st to the next st to close the height difference.
Pick one of the panels.
- Place the spider web on the base.
- Crocheting over both panels.
- Continue with 5 mm crochet hook and color A
Check:
- Place the lace over the base, as shown below.
- Both panels should be at the same level, if not, you can add more rounds in the stitch pattern to the panel that seems shorter or frog one or two rounds from the wider panel.
Round 10: ch 1, *8 sc over both the ch sps and the sts from the second panel, 9 sc over both sts, rep from * around. 84 sc
Handle
Continue with Color A
Chain 22, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across the chain spaces, skip next st on the pot holder, and join the handle with a sl st to the next st on the pot holder, fold the lower end of the handle into two, and sl st to the first ch to secure.
Fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
