Simple and elegant crochet blanket border
It’s something to make a beautiful blanket, its another to be able to add a simple, yet elegant crochet blanket border.
Since designing the plaid style blanket, I knew I wanted a cute but noting complicated for the border, so I went out with one of the squares used in the blanket.
As part of the plaid-style crochet blanket, this stitch tutorial is part of the squares, and it’s a fun one to make. See the details of the blanket here.
Square 1 – The Ponssittia square
Square 2 – The Mini Plaid square
Square 3 – The Snowman square

Plaid Style crochet blanket border Instruction
Join yarn (F) at any corner and crochet around the whole blanket.
Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, aim for 2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.
● Fasten off F
● Join E with a sl st to any of the ch 2 sps.
● If the stitches on each side in round 1 are not a multiple of 6 such that you end up with anything other than 3 dc before each corner, you will need to frog a few sts back and adjust the number of skipped sts.
– For example, if you have 1 st left for just 1 dc before the corner, frog 2 ch sps back and skip 2 instead of 3 to have 2 more sts to add to the previous one dc.
– If you have 1 – 3 sts after a 3 dc before each corner, frog back a few ch sps and skip 2 sts instead of 3. The number of sts frogged will be dependent on the number of sts you need.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, (*ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * until the next ch 2 sp, ch 3, skip ch 2 sp, dc in next 3 sts), rep () around, join
● Drop E, Pick up D
● Join D with a sl st to any ch 3 sp
Round 3: Ch 3, skip next 3 sts, [*3 dc in the skipped 3 sts below, ch 3, skip next 3 sts,
rep from * until the next corner, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc)], rep [ ] to the end, sl st to last st, join
● Drop D, Pick up E
● Join E with a sl st to any ch 3 sp
Round 4: Ch 3, skip next 3 sts, [*3 dc in the skipped 3 sts below, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, rep from * until the next corner, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc)], rep [ ] to the end, sl st to last st, join
Round 5: With F, Ch 2, *hdc in the next 3 sts, dc in the next 3 sts (from 2 rows below, over the ch sp from a row below), rep from *until the next corner join
Fasten off
