Crochet Cluster Stitch Square
Have you ever tried the crochet cluster stitch? This beautiful stitch would make a textured project. I could not resist making a cluster stitch square with the stitch.
The Cluster this way square is part of the fun Crochet Along organized by Sunflowercottagecrochet. There are various squares designed by different designers, which would be joined together to make a beautiful blanket.
Name Inspiration for the crochet cluster stitch square
I have named this square “Cluster this way” square after taking a close look at the texture and shape of the arrows created while using the half double crochet cluster stitch.
I have designed this easy-to-make square to teach anyone who wants to learn a new stitch. The half double crochet cluster stitch. This is such a fun crochet stitch that you master after few minutes. You can also make this stitch into anything you want.

Materials needed for this cluster stitch square
Yarn – For this pattern, any weight of yarn can be used. The beautiful texture of this stitch would pop beautifully. For this Tutorial, I have used – Stylecraft Jeanie Denim look, Aran #4 weight; (60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic, 230 yards/210m per 3.5oz/100g)
1 ball in Orchid.

HOOK AND OTHER MATERIALS
- US size J (6 mm) Crochet Hook
- Yarn needle
GAUGE
15 sts x 9 rows = 10cm/4” measured over hdc Hook used 6mm
Pattern Notes
- Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
- Unless otherwise stated turning chains do not count as a stitch.
- The width can be varied by increasing or decreasing the number of starting chains, note that it must be a multiple of 2 plus 1.

Half double cluster (hdccl): Yarn over, insert hook in last st used on the previous row, yarn over, pull up a loop, [yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop] twice, yarn over, draw through all 7 loops on hook.
Half double 3 together (hdc3tog): [Yarn over, insert hook into next st, yarn over, pull up loop] 3 times, draw through all 7 loops on hook.

Pattern instruction for the cluster stitch square
Chain 35
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 34 sc
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a hdc), starting in the first st, hdc3tog, *ch 1, hdccl, rep from * to last st, hdc in last st, turn. 15 hdccl, 16 ch-1-sp, 2 hdc, 1 hdc3tog
Row 3: Ch 1 (do not count as a sc), sc in each st and ch-1-sp across, turn. 34 sc
Rows 4 – 19: Rep Rows 2 – 3
Note: Rep rows 2 – 3 as desired.
Finishing
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, ch 1 at each corner, join with a sl st to beginning chain.
Fasten off, block to measurement.
