Materials needed for crochet flip flop slippers

Yarn: Stylecraft, Special DK, #3 (100% Acrylic, 295 yards/322 m per 3.5 oz/100g Ball).

Estimated Yardage

70 (80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170) yards

Hook

4 mm Crochet Hook.

Skill Level – Intermediate 

Terms – US Terminology 

Gauge 

18 sts over 14 rows = 4”/10 cm Square made in hdc before blocking. 

Adjust hook size if necessary, to obtain gauge.

Pattern Notes 

1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.

2. Chains at the beginning of the rows do not count as a stitch unless stated.

3. Any #3 weight yarn can be substituted. 

Stitches Abbreviations 

Chain(s) – ch(s) 

Slip stitch – sl st 

Single Crochet – sc

Half Double Crochet – hdc 

Double Crochet – dc 

Front loop only – FLO

Construction Note

  • This project is made in 2 sections. 
  • Section 1 – made in rows, the length should be similar to the strap of your slippers, after which you sew the sides together.
  • Section 2 – The rose is made in rows and then attached to the slippers. 

Adjustments 

Increase or decrease the foundation chain in section 1 to have a similar length as your slipper strap.

How to make a Rose Crochet Flip-Flop Slippers

Section 1: Make 2

Chain 24 (24, 28, 28, 30, 30, 34, 34, 36, 36, 38) 

Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn 22 (22, 26, 26, 28, 28, 32, 32, 34, 34, 36) hdc

Row 2: Ch 2, in FLO, hdc in each st across, 

Do not turn 22 (22, 26, 26, 28, 28, 32, 32, 34, 34, 36) hdc

Check if the two rows are wide enough to wrap around the strap, if not, repeat row 2 one more time. 

Second side 

Chain 28 (28, 34, 34, 36, 36, 40, 40, 42, 42, 44)

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 22 (22, 26, 26, 28, 28, 32, 32, 34, 34, 36), leave the remaining 4 chains, turn. 22 (22, 26, 26, 28, 28, 32, 32, 34, 34, 36) hdc

Row 2: ch 2, in flo, hdc in each st across. 

Do not turn. 22 (22, 26, 26, 28, 28, 32, 32, 34, 34, 36) hdc

If you have increased the number of rows in the first strap, repeat that on this other side. 

Do not fasten off.

Attach the panel to the slipper strap.

Step 1: Place the panel over the strap; with your crochet hook, join the ends of the foundation row to the end of row 2 with sc, starting from the end of the slippers towards the ch 4 space and back to the other end.

Fasten off

Sew in all ends

Section 2: Make 2 Rose

Type 1

Chain 125

Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next ch, rep from* to end, turn. 41 dc, 40 ch sp

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a st), 3 dc in first ch sp, *ch 4, sc in next ch sp, ch 4, 4 dc in next ch sp, rep from * until the last chain space.

Fasten off.

Type two: With petals

With A, Chain 125

Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next st, rep from* to end, turn. 41 dc, 40 ch sp

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a st), 3 dc in first ch sp, *ch 4, sc in next st, ch 4, 4 dc in next ch sp, rep from * until last 12 ch sps, fasten off A, join B. **Ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next st, ch 5, sc in same st, ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next st, rep from ** to end, turn. 6 ch-5 sps, 28 sc, 112 dc

Row 3: With B, ch 1, sc in first ch sp, *(5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) in ch 5 sp, skip next ch 2 sp, sc in next ch 2 sp, rep from * until last ch 5 sp, (5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) in ch 5 sp, sl st to the next ch 2 sp.  

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.

Fasten off.

To assemble the flower:

  • Start from the ruffled end.
  • Roll circularly and gradually expand the circle until you have completed the whole piece.
  • Secure with yarn at different spots on the base.

·   Sew it ends.

With the remaining yarn on the rose, sew tightly to the slippers using the ch 4 space left. 

Fasten off and sew in all ends.
