This cute cowl, which doubles as a necklace, is a stylish way to make a quick make that surprisingly works up quickly. I particularly love that this piece is easy to customize to a cowl, and you can also leave it as a necklace.

Materials for the free crochet necklace/cowl pattern

Yarn – Scheepjes Chunky Monkey, Chunky weight, #5, (100% Acrylic, 127 yards/116 m per 3.5 oz/100g Ball)

1 Ball in Red

ESTIMATED YARDAGE – 127 yards

HOOK AND OTHER MATERIALS

  • 6 mm crochet hook – for section 1 and section 3
  • 8 mm crochet hook – for section 2
  • Button – 1 pc, 25mm
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE – Gauge is not crucial for this project.

DIFFICULTY LEVEL – Easy

ADJUSTMENTS

  1. Increase/decrease your starting chains for a wider/smaller finished item.
  2. You can increase or decrease the number of chains in section 2 for a longer or shorter cowl/necklace.

PATTERN NOTES

  1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
  2. Any #5 weight of yarns can be substituted
  3. Chains at the beginning of rounds do not count as a stitch.

Single Crochet – sc

Back Loop Only – BLO

FINISHED MEASUREMENT

Cowl – 13” x 7”

Band – 4” x 2”

Free Loopy Necklace Pattern

Crochet Loopy Necklace which doubles as a cowl.

Section 1: Band

With 6 mm crochet hook, Chain 17

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 15 hdc

Row 2: Ch 2, in BLO, hdc in each st across, turn. 15 hdc

Rows 3 – 6: Rep Row 2

Do not fasten off

Section 2 – Body (Loops)

With 8mm crochet hook

1st chain – Chain 80, join to the first st to the opposite side of the band with a sl st.

2nd ch – ch 80, join with a sl st to the second st on the opposite side of the band.

3rd to end, ch 80, join with a sl st to the next st on the opposite side of the band.

There will be 30 Loops at the end.

Optional – For a fuller cowl, continue chaining into the next row of BLO created in section 1.

Steps in making crochet cowl/necklace pattern

Section 3: Band

With a 6 mm hook

Row 1: Ch 12, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. 10 hdc

Rows 2 – 5: Ch 2, hdc in each ch across, turn. 10 hdc

Do not fasten off.

Edges

*Ch 1, sc in next 5 sts, ch 1, sc in next 10 sts, rep from * one more time, sl st to beginning ch.

Buttonhole

Sc in next st, Ch 6, sk next 4 sts, sc in next st, sl st into next st.

Fasten off.

Sew in ends.

Sew button on the opposite side.

Finishing

Wrap the band around the necklace.
