Simple Free Crochet Bookmark Pattern

A cute crochet bookmark is a beautiful reminder of the page you are currently reading and your craft. This crochet bookmark pattern works quickly and uses up scrap ends of yarn.

A bookmark is essential to every avid reader, and when a crocheter loves reading, a free crochet bookmark pattern is appropriate.

I love making easy crochet bookmark/keychain patterns because they are fun and work up faster. This pattern also makes good use of ends of yarn. It would make a beautiful stash-busting pattern for little yards of yarn kept away.

This easy crochet bookmark pattern can be made using any yarn weight, from threads to fingering, double knitting, and worsted weight yarn. I wouldn’t recommend chunky yarns to prevent your books from splitting.

Materials for your free crochet bookmark pattern

Yarn – Any #2 weight yarn can be substituted for this bookmark project.

Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4, 4 ply, (100% Cotton, 186 yards/170 m per 1.8 oz/50g ball.

Crochet Book Mark Pattern Notes

1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
2. Chains at the beginning of the rounds count as a stitch.
3. Any yarn weight can be used, the thinner the smaller.

Adjustments:

Length: When making the rope, increase or decrease the repeats of chains to reflect the length of your book.

Instructions for this crochet bookmark pattern

Section 1 – Petal

Round 1: Make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 14 dc into magic ring, join with a sl st to beginning ch. 15 dc

Or Ch 4, join with a sl st to first ch to form a ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 14 dc into magic ring, join with a sl st to beginning ch. 15 dc

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next st, *ch 5, dc in next 3 sts, rep from * to last st, ch 5, dc in last st, join with a sl st to top of ch 3. 5 ch sps, 15 dc

Round 3: Ch 3, sk first st, *(4 dc, ch 5, 4 dc in ch sp), sk next 3 sts, rep from * to end, join with a sl st to top of ch 3. 5 ch sps, 40 dc

For Keychain – Chain 12, pass in your metal key holder. slst to the first ch, and fasten off.

For the bookmark, do not fasten it off; set it aside.

To make the Tassel:

Wrap yarn around your phone multiple times or cut out cardboard the same size as your cell phone. (The thickness of yarn on both sides of your phone/cardboard would be the volume of your Tassels)

Cut yarn at the yarn.

Slip off the yarn from your phone/cardboard.

Make the Knot: Cut out about 15” of yarn, fold it into 2, and wrap this yarn around a bunch of yarn made earlier. Secure the ends securely.

Cut off the bunch of yarn in the middle, trim off excess yarn on your tassels and set it aside.

Divider/Rope

Pick up the petal.

Chain 40 (or desired length considering your book-length).

Leave a long tail of yarn, cut yarn.

Join the Tassel made to the long tail of yarn left from the rope.

Finishing your Crochet Book Mark

Spray your Petal with fabric starch or hair stiffener to block it and stiffen the petal.
