Construction:
The top is worked in sections beginning from the waist upward. Once the waist section is completed, the bust and sleeves are added. The shoulder and side seams are then sewn to shape the garment.

The lace waist section can easily be adjusted by adding or reducing rows for a more customized fit.

Materials

Yarn:
Any DK weight yarn in colors of your choice.

The prototype was made by holding 2 strands of sport weight yarn together to create a DK equivalent.

Estimated Yardage:
900 yards for the featured size

Hook:
5 mm Crochet Hook

Gauge

One repeat section over 19 chains and 11 rows measures 4” square before blocking.

Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Pattern Notes

Please read through the pattern before starting.

Chains at the beginning of rows count as stitches throughout the pattern.

Work into beginning chains unless otherwise stated.

A lightweight #3 yarn may also be substituted as long as the gauge is matched.

The modeled garment is shown with approximately 2” of positive ease.

Use waist measurements when selecting your size.

Special Stitch

Crossed Treble Crochet

First Row:
Skip next 3 sts, tr in next st, ch 1, tr in second skipped st, ch 1, repeat across.

Subsequent Rows:
Work tr in the second leg of the tr from row below, ch 1, then working in front of the tr just made, tr in the first leg of tr from row below.

This stitch is stacked over the previous crossed trebles from the row below while skipping all chain spaces.

Row 2: Ch 3(counts as a dc), turn, dc in next 4 sts, *ch 3, skip next 3 sts, dc in next, ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in next 9 sts, rep from * to last shell, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, dc in next, ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in last 5 sts.

Rep Row 2 – 5, four more times.

Do not fasten off.

Edging

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across.

  • Crocheting across the next side.
  • Turn your piece 90°, to continue crocheting across the short side.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

You are still crocheting on the same side as row 1.

Rows 2 – 3: Ch 2, hdc in each st across.

Do not fasten off, turn, crocheting across the lower end (the foundation row).

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across,

Do not fasten off, turn, crocheting across the 3rd side of the panel.

Repeat rows 1 3 as for the other side.

Check: Your panel should measure about 11”

For a perfect fit, add or remove the repeats to get the required measurement.

Fasten off.

Section 2 – Upper Panel and Sleeve

Continue the sleeve

Adding the sleeves on both sides.

Row 1:

Right side – Chain 44, fasten off.

Left side –

Join yarn with a slip stitch to the other side of the panel, chain 46

Working through the left and right sides

hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, pick up the waist from section 1, hdc in each st across, continue to the other sleeve – hdc in each ch across, turn. 143 Hdc

Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as the first tr and first ch 1, here and throughout), *skip next 3 sts, tr in next st, ch 1, tr in 2nd skipped st, ch 1, rep from * to the last 2 sts, ch 1, skip next st, tr in last, turn. 35 xtrl, 2 tr.

Row 3: Ch 5, *xtrl, ch 1, rep from * until last st, ch 1, skip ch sp, tr in last st (4th ch from the beginning ch 5), turn. 35 xtrl, 2 tr.

Rows 4 – 17: Rep row 3.

Continue the repeats until you have a piece measuring 10”

Edging

  • Crocheting around the whole panel.
  • Sc in each st/ch sp.

Row 18: Ch 1, sc in each st ch 1 sp across.

Do not fasten off.

Put 3 sc in each ch 5/tr

Round 1: Ch 1, *3 sc in each ch 5/tr across, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) at the corner, sc in each hdc st at the foundation sts, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) at next corner, rep from * around, join with a sl st to the beginning ch.

Make the second piece.

Finishing

Shoulder Seam

  1. Lay the back panel flat and place the front panel’s edges across the edge.
  2. Using stitch markers, attach the front panels to the back panels.
  3. There will be a gap (would be the neckline)
  4. Using either a darning needle or a crochet hook with mattress st or sl st, join the front panel to the back panel.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

Side seam and armhole

  1. Lay the front panels over the back panel.
  2. Using either darning needing or a crochet hook with mattress st or sl st, join the lower ends of the sleeves, continue downwards to join the sides of the waist.
  3. Fasten off and repeat on the other side.

Front opening/Neckline

  • Join yarn with a sl st to the lower end of the vest.
  • Crocheting upwards towards the neckline and back to the lower edge.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends

Block your tee to measurement.
