Crochet Halter Dress Pattern

Did someone say another crochet dress? Yes! I am excited to share with you my new design – the crochet halter dress pattern! When I made the halter top, I knew the concept would make a beautiful dress.

But I decided to go for an asymmetrical style for the dress. What do you think? This effect of the high-low at the lower part of the dress is surprisingly super easy to make! No sewing is required for this crochet dress, making it super easy to make.

It is also easy to customize this dress for a perfect fit! You can make your s shorter or longer! I have added instructions to help you with customizing your dress!

One of the things I love about this dress is that you can never go wrong with your color choices. You can use solid colored yarn or go with cakes.

Oh, and we added a cute slit on the back! I love how beautiful the slit makes the dress.

How to Crochet the Halter High Low Dress

  1. This dress is worked in 2 sections.
  2. Section 1 – Top – Starts from the neckline and is made in rows (3 pieces), after which the 3 pieces are connected and continued in round.
  3. Section 2 – The skirt is made in rounds.
  4. No sewing is needed.

Best yarn to make a crochet halter dress pattern

  • You need any DK (#3) weight yarn for this project.
  • A cotton or cotton blend will give a good drape, but you can use any other fiber as you prefer.
  • I doubled #2 for mine, using 2 strands of Sport weight.
  • My Testers used a range of DK weight yarn, and some held 2 strands of #2.

18 sts over 12 Rows = 4 x 4” made in xhdc, before blocking.

Instructions for the gauge

Row 1: Chain 20, hdc in 3rd ch and in each ch across, turn. 18 hdc

Rows 2 – 12: Ch 1, hdc in first st, xhdc in each st across until the last st, hdc, in the last st turn. 2 hdc, 8 xhdc

Adjust hook size if necessary, to obtain gauge.

Pattern Notes to help you make a perfect crochet halter dress

  1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
  2. Beginning chains do not count as a stitch throughout the pattern.
  3. Stitch count is written after each row/round, with the smallest XS written first and the other in the ().
  4. Stitch count written in black is for all sizes, but at some points, the stitch counts are color-coded for clarity, i.e. XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL).

  1. Crossed half double crochet – *skip next st, hdc in next st, crocheting over the hdc just made, work hdc into the skipped st, rep from * to the end.
  2. Crossed double crochet lace (xdcl) – First round

*ch 1, skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1, crocheting over the dc just made, dc in the skipped stitch

First crossed double crochet lace made.  Repeat from * around.

How to work the second and subsequent rounds of crossed double crochet lace

Next row of crossed double crochet lace (xdcl) = *ch 1, skip ch1 -sp, next st and next ch 1-sp, dc in next st (this is the first leg of xdcl made from the round below), ch 1, crocheting over the dc just made, dc in the second leg (st) stitch.

First crossed double crochet lace made, repeat from * around.

Note – when making the second row of xdcl, you only crochet into the dc stitches and skip all chain 1 spaces.

  1. Crossed treble crochet lace (xtrl) Foundation row

*ch 1, skip next 3 sts, tr in next st, ch 1, crocheting over the tr just made, tr in second skipped stitch

First crossed treble crochet lace made.  Repeat from * across.

How to work the second crossed treble crochet lace

Next row of crossed treble crochet lace (xtl) = *ch 1, skip ch1 -sp, next st and next ch 1-sp, tr in next st (this is the first leg of xtrl made into the 4th stitch), ch 1, crocheting over the tr just made, tr in the second leg (st) stitch.

First crossed treble crochet lace made.  Repeat from * across.

Note – when making the second row of xtrl, you only crochet into the tr stitches and skip all chain 1 spaces.

Adjustments

  • You can adjust the length of your dress by decreasing or increasing the length of your skirt.
  • Straps – You can reduce the length of your strap.
