Mini Plaid Skirt Pattern

I fell in love with the mini plaid stitch after using the plaid stitch for this blanket.

The fact that you can combine different colors – either complementary or contrasting wouldn’t matter.

The mini plaid stitch was also used for the Plaid cowl, which comes in multiple sizes.

Yarn: You can use any DK-weight yarn or any yarn used to meet the gauge

The prototype was made using = Stylecraft Bellissima DK, #3 (100% Acrylic, 293  yards / 286 meters per 3.5 oz/100g skein).

Fit around your waist

  • Add one or two more decrease rows for a better fit around your waist.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next ch, *ch 3, skip 3 chs, dc in next 3 chs, rep from * across, turn 

60 (66, 75, 81, 87, 96, 102, 108, 117) dc

19 (21, 24, 26, 28, 31, 33, 35, 38) ch sps

Drop A, join B

Row 2: Ch 3, skip next 3 sts, *3 dc over the skipped foundation ch below, ch 3, skip next 3 sts,  rep from * until the end, sl st to last st, turn.

57 (63, 72, 78, 84, 93, 99, 105, 114) dc

Drop B, join C

Rows 6 – 36: Repeat Rows 4 – 5, following the color sequence of A, B and C.

Fasten off  B & C

Band

Rows 37 – 45: Repeat Rows 4 – 5

Continue the repeat using color A until your skirt measures 12” and the band 3”

Row 46:  With A, Ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts 

*dc in next 3 sts (from 2 rows below, over the ch sp from a row below), hdc in next 3 sts, rep from * until the end, turn.

Optional 

  • Crochet the last row together with an elastic band.

Row 47: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * to the end.

Repeat Row 38 once more time for a perfect fit around the waist.  

Edging

  • Crochet around the whole piece
  • Crocheting loosely
  • Continue with Black (color A)

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, aim for [1sc, ch 2, 1 sc] at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, aim for [1sc, ch 2, 1 sc] at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.

Do not fasten off.

Section 3 – Buttonhole

Crochet down the short end in rows.

Rows 1 – 2: Ch 1, hdc in st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, hdc in first st,*ch 2, skip next 2 sts, hdc in next 8 sts*, rep from * to the end, turn.

Adjust the number of chains and skipped sts to fit your desired buttons.

Row 4: Ch sc in each st across

Fasten off.

Button side 

Crochet down the opening of the skirt from the band downwards.

Join yarn with a sl st to the opposite side. 

Row 1: Ch 1, hdc in each st across

Fasten off.

Sew buttons to the corresponding side.

Sew it ends.

Fasten off.
