Crochet Easter Basket Pattern

This crochet Easter basket measures 6” at its base and 8” tall.

Yarn – Hobbii Kind Feathers, #3 lightweight (100% Acrylic, 257 yards/235 m per 3.75 oz/100g Skein)

Cream– Main Color = MC

Pink– Contrasting Color = CC

Estimated yardage

100 yards in MC

80 yards in CC

Hook

US size H (5 mm) Crochet Hook

Gauge

14 sts over 8 rows = 10 cm square/4” made in dc

Gauge isn’t important for this project.

Crochet Easter Basket Pattern Notes

  1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
  2. Any #5 weight of yarns can be substituted
  3. The prototype was made using 2 strands of DK held together.
  4. Chains at the beginning of Rounds or Rows do not count as a stitch.

Crochet Easter Basket Pattern

Section 1 – Base, Using MC

Round 1: In a Magic ring, ch 2, 12 hdc, join.  12 hdc.

Or ch 4, 12 hdc in 4th ch from hook, join—12 hdc.

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each around, join—24 hdc.

Round 3: Ch 2, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—36 hdc.

Round 4: Ch 2, *hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—48 hdc

Round 5: Ch 2, *hdc in next 3, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—60 hdc

Round 6: Ch 2, *hdc in next 4, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join—72 hdc

Round 7: Ch 2, *hdc in next 5, 2 hdc in next; repeat from * around, join— 84 hdc

Section 2: Body

Round 1: Ch 1, in BLO, hdc in each st around, join. 84 hdc

  • Place a stitch marker at the end of the round, and move with each round.
  • Crocheting in the 3rd loop from here and through round 12

Rounds 2 – 12: Hdc in each st’s 3rd loop around, 84 hdc

Sl st to the next ch to bridge the height gap difference.

Round 13: Ch 1, in 3rd loop, sl st in each st around, join 84 st

Fasten off.

Basket Handle

With MC, chain 8. Join with a sl st to the first ch.

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around, place a st marker, and move after each round. 8  sc

Rounds 2 – 30: In BLO, sc in each st around. 8 sc

Leave a long tail of yarn and cut yarn.

To assemble

  • Sew the handle to the basket, making sure to have the handle joined; at an equal distance from each other.   
  • Count 38 sts away from the just joined handle and secure the other side of the handle to the basket.

Color B = Pink

Row 1: With B, ch 65, dc in 5th ch from hook, *ch 2, skip next 2 chs, dc in next st, rep from* to last ch, dc in last ch, turn. 21 dc, 20 ch sp

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a st), 3 dc in first ch sp, *ch 4, sc in next st, ch 4, 4 dc in next ch sp, rep from * until the last 12 ch sps, ch 4, sc in next st, fasten off B, join A. **ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next st, ch 5, sc in same st, ch 2, skip next ch sp, sc in next st, rep from ** to end, turn.  6 ch-5 sps, 26 sc, 32 dc

Row 3: With B, ch 1, sc in first ch sp, *(5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) in ch 5 sp, skip next ch 2 sp, sc in next ch 2 sp, rep from * until last ch 5 sp, (5 dc, ch 3, 5 dc) in ch 5 sp, sl st to the next ch 2 sp.

Fasten off.

To assemble the flower

·   Start from the ruffled end

·   Roll in a circular fashion and gradually expand the circle until you have completed the whole piece.

·   Secure with yarn at different spots on the base.

·   Sew it ends.

·   Secure the flower to the basket at a point of your choice.

  1. Hi there, for the body on rounds 2-12, are we slip stitching to join the rounds and then chaining one and beginning the HDC 3rd loop only, or are we only slip stitching to join and immediately going into HDC without the ch1? Thanks!

    1. HI Kristen,
      There’s an instruction to place a stitch marker at the end of round 1 and move this after each round. With this, you do not need to chain 1 at the beginning of the round and also you do not need to join at the end of the round.
      Simple remove the stitch marker when you get to the end of the round and place it on the first stitch in the next round. Continue this repeat until you have the required number of rounds.
