Easy crochet carrot pattern

the finished carrots measure – 3.5” (5”)

This crochet carrot pattern is designed to be made with any yarn weight available. The photos show that the prototype used two different yarn weights to achieve the different sizes. The smallest was made using #2, sport-weight yarn. While the bigger one was made using #3, DK weight yarn.

One of my testers even used Worsted weight yarn!

What yarn do I need for this crochet carrot pattern

Hobbii Friends Wheel, #2 Sport weight (55% Cotton, 45% Acrylic, 437 yards/400 m per 3.5 oz/100g Skein)

DK weight yarn – Hobbii Kind Feathers, #3 lightweight (100% Acrylic, 257 yards/235 m per 3.75 oz/100g Skein)

30 yards in MC

20 yards in CC

Hook

2.5 mm Crochet Hook – Go with the smallest hook you are comfortable crocheting with.

  1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
  2. Any #3 weight of yarns can be substituted
  3. Chains at the beginning of Rounds or Rows do not count as a stitch.

Crochet Easter Basket Pattern

With MC

Round 1: 5 sc in a magic ring. 5
Round 2: sc around. 5
Round 3: 2 sc in each st around. 10
Rounds 4 – 5: sc around. 10
Round 6: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next, rep from * around. 15
Rounds 7 – 12: sc around. 15
Round 13:  *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next, rep from * around. 20

Round 14 – 16: sc around. 20
Round 17: *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next, rep from * around. 25

Round 18 – 28: sc around. 25

Set your carrot aside 

If you would prefer to complete your carrot and stuff to close it up before the facial details and sewing the accessories, continue to Round 29

Facial details 

  • Place black pins for the eye details – Round 22, 4 sts apart.
  • Place a Pink pin for the mouth details – Round 18
  • Adjust the placement appropriately

Eyes

If using Safety eyes or buttons

  • Attach a safety eye or sew a button in the position of the pin. 
  • Repeat for the second eye.

If you prefer to embroider the eyes

  • With a darning needle, embroider the eye details.
  • Remove the pins.

Mouth details 

  • With a darning needle, embroider the mouth details. 

Round 29: *sc in next 2 sts, inv dec, sc in next, rep from * around. 20

Round 30: sc around. 20
Round 31: *sc in next st, inv dec, sc in next, rep from * around. 15

Stuff with polyester fillings
Round 32: Sc in next st, inv dec around, around. 8

Stuff with polyester fillings again

Fasten off MC

Join  CC

Round 33: sc in each st around – 8

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing, but do not sew the remaining sts yet.

Leave – Make 2 per carrot

Main stem: Chain 21

First curl: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next 9 chs, sl st in next 4 chs. 

Leave the remaining ch, continue with the second curl

2nd curl – Chain 15, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next 9 chs, sl st in next 4 chs. 

Continue with the third curl

3rd curl – Chain 15, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2 sc in next 9 chs, sl st in 4 chs. 

Continue with the remaining chains left on the main stem – sc in the remaining chains

Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.

Make 2 and stitch the ends together.

Joining

  • Pick up your carrot and two leaves
  • Use your hook or darning needle to pull the yarn end of the leaf into the carrot so that the stem goes to the sts left.
  • Gently tug in the ends of the leaves with the first 2 sts on the stem into the opening on the carrot.
  • Sew closed the remaining sts on the carrot to secure the leaves.
  • Sew in all ends
  • Fasten off.
