For some extra fun, I have added some cute metal bells ornaments to make this crochet version even more useful. My kids love this version as it makes some funny jingles.

You can substitute with beads or totally leave these out if you have younger kids at home.

Materials needed for the easy Christmas crochet bells

Lion brand Coboo – DK, #3 lightweight (51% Cotton, 49% Rayon from Bamboo, 232 yards/212m per 3.5 oz/100g skein)

Estimated Yardage

40 yards

Hook and other Materials

 3.5 mm Crochet Hook

Starch (optional)

Gauge – 14 sts over 8  rows = 10 cm/4” square made in dc

  1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
  2. Any similar #3 weight yarn can be substituted. 
  3. Do not join at the end of the round – work in continuous rounds

Easy crochet Ornament free pattern

Instructions for the easy crochet bells free pattern

Round 1: In a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc into the magic ring, place stitch marker, and move with each round 6 sc

[if you are not familiar with a magic ring, you can ch 2, 6 sc into 1st chain]

Place a stitch marker after the last st and move after each round.

Round 2: *2 sc in each st around, 12 sc

Rounds 3 – 6: sc in each st. 12 sc 

Round 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * to the end, close the height difference with a sl st into the first st. 18 sc

Round 8: Ch 1, Rsc in each st. 18 Rsc

Fasten off, and sew in the ends.

To assemble your crochet bells

  • Thread a darning needle and pass a bell ornament or bead through it. 
  • Secure tightly
  • Pass the remaining yarn through the middle of the just-made crochet bell to the center of the magic ring made in round 1.
  • Secure the yarn 
  • Fasten off  

Optional

Chain 30 and make a bow with the chain

Sew the bow to either one or two completed bells together.
