I love adding fun ornaments to our Christmas tree every year but my older boy requested an angel, as such, a Crochet angel ornament pattern was designed specially for our tree.

Materials needed for the crochet angel ornament pattern

Yarn – Stylecraft Bellissima DK, #3 (100% Acrylic, 293  yards / 286 meters per 3.5 oz/100g skein). 

Estimated yardage 

40 yards

Hook and other materials 

  • 3 mm Crochet Hook
  • Polyfill

Gauge

16  sts over 10  Rows = 4” across, made using hdc, before blocking.

  2. Any #3 weight yarn can be substituted
  3. Chains at the beginning of Rounds do not count as a stitch.
  4. Stitch counts are indicated in bold at the end of the round.

Crochet angel ornament pattern

Make the Head

Round 1: In a magic Ring, ch 1 (does not count as a stitch here and throughout), 6 sc in MC. 6 sc

  • Working in continuous rounds until indicated otherwise.
  • Place a stitch marker in the last st and move it after each round.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. 12 sc

Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around 18 sc

Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, rep from * around 24 sc

Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * around 30 sc

Rounds 6 – 10: Ch 1, sc in each st around 30 sc

Round 11: *sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * around 24 sc

Round 12:*sc2tog around 12 sc

Stuff with polyfill

Remove the stitch marker and join after each round

Body

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st, join – 12 sc

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join – 24 sc

Round 3: Ch 1, [2 hdc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 8 sts] 2 times 32 hdc

Round 4: [2 hdc in next 8 sts, hdc in next 8 sts] 2 times. 48 hdc

Split for the body

Round 1: [Skip next 16 sts, hdc in next 8 sts] 2 times.16 hdc

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join. 32 hdc

Round 3: Ch 6 (counts as sc + ch 5), *skip next 3 sts, sc in next st, ch 5, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to first ch 8 sc/ch sp

Round 4: Ch 4 (counts as the first sc + ch 3 here and throughout the pattern), *sc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 3, rep from * to the end, join. 9 ch sp, 12 dc, 5 sc.

Round 5: Ch 7, skip first (ch sp and sc, *sc in next ch sp, ch 6, rep from * to the end, sc in last ch sp, join with a sl st to the first chain. 8 ch sps, 9 sc

Round 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in first st, *ch 3, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch sp, rep from * until the last ch sp, ch 3, sc in last ch sp, ch 3, join with a sl st to the top of ch 3. 8 ch sp, 12 dc, 4 sc.

Round 7: Ch 7 ( counts as sc + ch 6), *skip next 3 sts, sc in next ch sp, ch 6, sc in next ch sp, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to first ch – 8 sc/ch sp.

Round 8: Ch 7, *sc in next ch sp, ch 6, 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 6, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to the first ch. 9 ch sp, 12 dc, 5 sc.

Round 9: Ch 7 ( counts as sc + ch 6), sc in next ch sp, *ch 6, sc in next ch sp, ch 6, skip next 3 sts, sc in next ch sp, rep from * to the last ch sp, join with a sl st to the ch sp from the beginning. 9 sc/ch sp

Round 10: Ch 3, 2 dc in first ch sp, 6 dc in each ch sp until the last ch sp, join with a slip st to the top of the beginning ch. 51 dc

Round 11: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in first st, *skip next 2 sts, {3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc} in next st, sc in next st, rep from * until the last 5 sts, skip next 2 sts, {3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc} in next st, skip last  2 sts, join with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch.

Optional

You can stiffen the angel by adding starch. 

Handle – Cut 6″ of yarn and pass it through the magic ring made at the being, sew the ends together to make a loop.
