Crochet convertible dress styled in many ways!

This is a dream come through, I have always wanted a dress designed for a special occasion. I wanted to sew my own wedding dress but couldn’t get to do that. (Even though I did add the bead to my wedding dress). I wasn’t designing crochet garments then. Earlier this year, I became pregnant and finally decided to make my own bespoke crochet dress for my pregnancy shoot.

I poured myself into the design process of this dress, the sketch was to make this crochet dress into one that can be styled in so many different ways. The plan was to have the dress into something that can be worn by someone not pregnant. My excitement to have this dress fit perfectly even after delivery is so amazing.

Name Inspiration of this crochet convertible dress

The skirt has a beautiful lace detail that looks like Tulips, this was pointed out by my good friend who happened to be one of the testers for this dress. I couldn’t agree more. That was the birth of the “Tulip Convertible dress”

Since designing this convertible skirt, I have designed a skirt. The free pattern can be seen here. The beautiful delicate-looking details in the skirt are simply breathtaking and beautifully gorgeous. I couldn’t resist creating the pattern for the skirt using this same pattern.

The prototype was made using Hobbii Mixo yarn which is lightweight yarn (#2), you do not have to use the same yarn, but a fingering weight yarn or any yarn with a similar gauge can be used. I would strongly advise against using any heavyweight yarn so as not to end up with a huge, heavy dress!

Yarn

Hobbii Dahlia Mixo, #2 (100% Cotton, 874 yards/ 800 m per 7oz/200g Cake)

2 (2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5) cakes

Estimated Total Yardage

1600 (1800, 2000, 2200, 2600, 2800, 3000, 3200, 3400) yards

Hook and other materials

– 4 mm Crochet Hook

– Buttons 8-12 pcs (15mm each)

– Elastic Band = ⅛ to ½” thickness by 40 (44, 48, 52, 64, 72, 80, 84, 92)”

Gauge

19 sts and 16 Rows = 10 cm/4” before Blocking. Made in hdc

Adjust hook size if necessary, to obtain gauge.

Pattern Notes

Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
Similar #2 weight yarn can be substituted, please check the gauge.
Chains at the beginning of each round/row do not count as a stitch except indicated.
For the elastic band, you can decide to use a thicker band for the skirt and a tinner band for the tube.
