Yarn – Stylecraft Bellissima DK, #3 (100% Acrylic, 293  yards / 286 meters per 3.5 oz/100g skein). 

Estimated yardage

Hook and other materials 

  • 4 mm Crochet Hook
  • Large Fillable Bauble – 8cm

Gauge

16  sts over 10  Rows = 4” across, made using hdc, before blocking.

How to make crochet Christmas baubles

Round 1: Chain 16, join with a sl st to the first chain to make a circle, ch 1, 2 hdc in each chain around, join. 32 hdc

Round 3: Ch 6 (counts as sc + ch 5), *skip next 3 sts, sc in next st, ch 5, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to first ch 8 sc/ch sp

Round 4: Ch 4 (counts as the first sc + ch 3 here and throughout the pattern), *sc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 3, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to the first ch sp. 9 ch sp, 12 dc, 5 sc.

Round 5: Ch 7, skip first (ch sp and sc, *sc in next ch sp, ch 6, rep from * to the end, sc in last ch sp, join with a sl st to the first chain. 8 ch sps, 9 sc

Round 6: Ch 3, 2 dc in first st, *ch 3, sc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in next ch sp, rep from * until the last ch sp, ch 3, sc in last ch sp, ch 3, join with a sl st to the top of ch 3. 8 ch sp, 12 dc, 4 sc.

Round 7: Ch 7 ( counts as sc + ch 6), *skip next 3 sts, sc in next ch sp, ch 6, sc in next ch sp, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to first ch – 8 sc/ch sp.

Round 8: Ch 7, *sc in next ch sp, ch 6, 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 6, rep from * to the end, join with a sl st to the first ch. 9 ch sp, 12 dc, 5 sc.

Round 9: Ch 7 ( counts as sc + ch 6), sc in next ch sp, *ch 6, sc in next ch sp, ch 6, skip next 3 sts, sc in next ch sp, rep from * to the last ch sp, join with a sl st to the ch sp from the beginning. 9 sc/ch sp

Round 10: Ch 3, 2 dc in first ch sp, 6 dc in each ch sp until the last ch sp, join with a slip st to the top of the beginning ch. 51 dc

Leave about 4” of yarn for sewing and cut off excess yarn.

Fasten off

Weave in ends

  • Place the bauble with the cover through the opening made in the first round.
  • With the yarn left, wrap the 4” of yarn to secure the bauble inside the lace cover made. 
  • Wrap around multiple times and secure the end of the yarn properly.
  • Spread out the last round (stitches from round 10) evenly.
