The aim was for a quick project that could be made at the last minute! But I needed to add crocheting, so I made a hat and necktie.

Supplies needed for this super quick Santa crochet Christmas wreath

Wreath – Loopy Yarn

Alize Puffy #7,  100% (Micropolyester, 9.8 yds/9 m per 3.53 oz/100g Ball)

Hat and Tie – Worsted weight yarn

Stylecraft Special Aran, (#4, 100% Acrylic, 196 m per 3.5 oz/100g Ball)

Estimated yardage

Loop Yarn = 28 yards

Red = 250 yards

White = 40 yards

Hook and other materials for the Hat and Tie 

• Darning Needle
• 4.5 mm Crochet Hook
• Stitch marker

Materials for the Wreath

• 2 Rolls of White Loop Yarn
• 2 form rings of different diameters (I used 20 cm and 14 cm).
• Scissors 
• Glue or Pin to secure the loops to the ring (optional)

Gauge for the hat and tie =

Gauge for the hat and tie = 14 sts over 10 rows = 4 x 4” made in hdc, before blocking.

Adjust hook size, if necessary, to obtain gauge.

Crochet Santa Wreath Pattern Notes

1. Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
2. Any other brand of loop yarn can be substituted for the wreath.
3. You can use any other size of ring, but the estimated yardage of loop yarn will be different. 
4. Any # 4 weight yarn can be substituted for the hat and tie.

Crossed half double crochet (xhdc) – *skip next st, hdc in next st, crocheting over the hdc just made, work hdc into the skipped st, rep from * to the end.

This project is made in 3 sections

• Section 1 – The Wreath – made in two parts and joined together.
• Section 2 – Santa Hat also made the rounds. 
• Section 3 – Santa Tie in rows.

Finished measurements

37cm – high 

24 cm at the widest diameter.

Free Santa crochet Christmas wreath pattern

Section 1: Wreath

Part 1 – Large Wreath

Step 1: Pick up the large wreath ring and the first Ball of white loop yarn.

Step 2: Secure the end of the loop yarn with either a pin or glue to the wreath ring and wrap the loop yarn around the wreath form.

Step 3: Pass the whole roll through the wreath ring’s center and wrap the loop yarn around the ring. Secure the loop yarn with glue or pins at intervals and ensure a tight wrap. 

¾ way through the large wreath, the 1st ball of loop yarn should be finished. Join a new ball with glue or make a knot with loops on each end of the yarn. Be sure the end is secured before continuing.

Continue to wrap the loop yarn until the end. 

Cut off excess yarn and secure the end properly to the wreath ring. 

Part 2 – Small

Step 1: Pick up the small wreath ring and the roll from the previous wreath.

Step 2: Secure the end of the loop yarn with either a pin or glue to the wreath ring and wrap the loop yarn around the wreath form.

Step 3: Pass the whole roll through the wreath ring’s center and wrap the loop yarn around the ring. Secure the loop yarn with glue or pins at intervals and ensure a tight wrap. 

Continue to wrap the loop yarn until the end of the next roll; if you need another roll, join the next roll with either glue, knot, or overlap the next roll.

Secure the end properly to the wreath ring. 

Please do not cut off excess yarn, as it will be used to join the two rings together.

To join the two rings

Pick up both rings and wrap the excess yarn around the two rings to secure both rings firmly. 

Secure the end properly to the wreath ring. 

Section 2: Santa Hat

Round 1: With color A, in a magic ring, 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 sc) Place stitch marker.
[if you are not familiar with a magic ring, you can ch 2, 6 sc into 1st chain]
Round 2: sc in each st around; move the stitch marker after every round. (6 sc)
Round 3:*2 sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (8 sc)
Round 4: sc in each st. (8 sc)
Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (10 sc)
Round 6: sc in each st. (10 sc)
Round 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (12 sc)
Round 8: sc in each st. (12 sc)
Round 9: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (14 sc)
Round 10: sc in each st. (14 sc)

Round 11: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (16 sc)
Round 12: sc in each st. (16 sc)
Round 13: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 sts, repeat from * to end of the round. (18 sc)

Fasten off the Red yarn and join the White 

Round 1: Ch 1, hdc in the first st, *bobble in next st, hdc in next st, rep from * until the last st, bobble in the last st, turn.  28 hdc/ 27 bobble

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with a sl st to the beginning chain. 76 sc

Fasten off.

Weave in all loose ends.

Section 3 of this Santa crochet Christmas wreath pattern: Tie

With Red 

With Color A chain 122

Row 1: Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and in 

each ch across, turn. 120 hdc

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in first st, xhdc across until the last st, hdc in last st, turn. 59 xhdc, 2 hdc.

Rows 3 – 6: Rep Row 2

Reduce the number of repeats for a thinner scarf. 

Edging

Row 7: Crocheting around the whole panel, ch 1, sc evenly around the whole piece, aim for (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) at each corner, join with a sl st to the beginning chain.

Fasten off 

Weave in all ends.

To assemble

• Wrap the tie around where you joined the two rings and make a knot.

• Place the Santa hat on the smaller ring as you please. 
• You can sew/join the hat to the wreath if you desire.
