Poinsettia Flower - a free crochet Christmas flower pattern.

Free Crochet Christmas Flower Pattern

I am always excited to buy poinsettia flowers each year, but I decided to make mine out of yarn this Holiday! Meet the Free Crochet Christmas Flower Pattern, the perfect flower for this season. I love how easy it is to customize the flower.

My love for the poinsettia flower has influenced me to design some other projects that incorporated either the shape or the flower.

  • When crocheting into the chains, use the first loop as the remaining loop will be used in round 3

Round 2: *Ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next 3 chs, tr in next 10 chs, skip next 2 sts on round 1, sc in next 3 sts, rep from * to the end, Insert the hook into the base of the first ch of the petal to join with a sl st.

Notes:

  • Crocheting over a wire to give the petals dome rigidity.
  • Go for a thinner yarn or go down a hook size to hide the color difference between the wire and the yarn.

Round 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, aim for 3 sc in each ch 3 sp, join.

Fasten off, and weave in ends.

To assemble your flower

Step 1: Pick the thicker wire, I used 18 G. Fold into the desired length and width. Folded mine into 4 with the total length being 8”.

Step 2: Pick up one of the smallest petals – start with the red, and pass the wire through the middle part as shown below.

Step 3: Repeat for each of the flowers, re-arrange the petals to have the tips spread out evenly.

Step 4: Pass any ornaments are so desired. Wrap green yarn around the wire multiple times until you have completely wrapped the wire with yarn. Secure firmly and cut off excess yarn.
